BLOCKCON 2018: Brock Pierce Closes Out Day 3
Another BLOCKCON is in the books! You can see our coverage from Day 1 and Day 2 or our recap of the fireside chat between AngelList Co-Founder Naval Ravikant and author Nassim Nicholas Taleb using these links.
Day 3 concluded with an inspiring presentation from Brock Pierce:

For those who think investment in Blockchain is dead, Pierce would disagree:
Brock Pierce @brockpierce expects trillions of dollar to come to Blockchain technology #blockcon #blockcon2018
— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
One of the reasons for that is the adoption he is seeing in countries like the Philippines:
“80 million people are unbanked in the Philippines… 5% of the people are using Blockchain to send money” – @brockpierce #blockcon #blockcon2018
— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
As well as the investment advantages that can be found in economic opportunity in zones, including most of Puerto Rico:

Finally, Pierce held an impromptu auction for a photograph by Peter Ruprecht. It sold, in Bitcoin, for the equivalent of approximately $4,000 USD, funds which will go toward helping families in Puerto Rico who are still affected by Hurricane Maria.

Earlier in the day, Crystal Rose, CEO of SENSE, spoke on decentralization and the real meaning of privacy:
Decentralization Makes Sense to @SenseToken CEO Crystal Rose @crystalrose #blockcon #blockcon2018 pic.twitter.com/or1Mjk2ncn
— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
Rose believes that we have lost the true meaning of privacy and that it should be looked at in a more positive light:
“We make privacy something we have to hide (we even hide our “privates”). It’s really something that we want to protect. Real privacy is your choice and ability to share what you want, on your own terms.” – @crystalrose @SenseToken #blockcon #blockcon2018
— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
SENSE is looking to bring privacy back:

— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
SENSE is one of the many decentralized applications in a growing EOS ecosystem:

— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
On the other hand, Paul Puey, CEO of Edge Wallet, does not think decentralization is the solution (although it is important):
At Day 3 of #blockcon, @paullinator from @EdgeWallet does not believe that 100% decentralization is possible. Decentralization is a tool. #blockcon2018 pic.twitter.com/iOsyX6sD4u

The Women in Blockchain panel featured a diverse group of successful Blockchain leaders:

Bitcoin is in fashion:

— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
And words of wisdom from each of them will hopefully inspire both men and women to make a difference in Blockchain:
How women can get more involved / other words of wisdom:
“Be open to lots of different ways of being.” – @nikiahwilliams
“Learn about financial literacy.” – @PhuStyles
“Don’t stop learning (but) raise your bullshit radar” – @poesyliang #blockcon #blockcon2018
— Blockchain Beach (@blockchainbeach) October 12, 2018
As should the comment from DNA Fund’s Marc Weinstein during a later panel:
“If you’re bullish on the space in general, it’s not about picking individual investments. A rising tide lifts all boats, so the money or sweat equity put in should pay off for all of us” – @WarcMeinstein #blockcon #blockcon2018
