Crypto Community Comes Together for Coronavirus (COVID-19) Charity
Leaders from companies around the crypto world have come together to support Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief efforts, including members from the Blockchain Beach community. The main vehicle for these efforts is Binance Charity‘s #CryptoAgainstCOVID campaign. To date, 80 donors have donated over 425 Bitcoin (approximately $3.9M).
Donors to the fund include the Integro Foundation, Sense Chat, and Draper Goren Holm, with the Integro Foundation committing $1 million USD to support COVID-19 relief efforts in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean. Integro Foundation has committed $333,000 USD towards the campaign, with Binance Charity matching this commitment 2:1, resulting in a total of $1 million USD in cryptocurrencies.
The $1 million USD commitment will go towards providing PPE medical supplies to hospitals and first responders in Puerto Rico and neighbouring Caribbean islands.
“We have tremendous gratitude for the people in the front lines supporting our healthcare system. This initiative is our way to support the true heroes: the first responders and medical workers with the tools required to protect themselves during this crisis.” said Brock Pierce, Integro Foundation Chairman.
Helen Hai, Head of Binance Charity, added: “The most important element of human life is to show compassion and help others as we can, without the limitation or restriction of borders. Blockchain technology enables this in greater capacities than ever before and Binance Charity wishes to bring this to the masses.”
As of March 20, Binance Charity has delivered to over 300 hospitals and medical teams:
- 366,000 pairs of gloves
- 56,800 masks
- 9 sterilizers
- 173 barrels of disinfectant (around 5 tons)
- 5,280 bottles of hand sanitizers, 20,000 testing kits
- 7,850 protective suits
- 20,000 pairs of goggles
- 388 oxygen concentrators
- 1000 germicidal lamps
On April 30, these figures were updated to include 10,000 protective suits sent to Turkey and 400,000 masks sent to Italy:

“The crypto community is a growing force and we have an opportunity to strengthen this through philanthropy. We encourage the community to take part in this initiative as we unite against COVID-19, and together, we’ll drive impact,” added CZ (Changpeng Zhao), founder and CEO of Binance.
Josef Holm, Founding Partner at Draper Goren Holm also made a call for the local community to lend their support: “Binance is spearheading a great cause, and we highly encourage other community leaders who are in the position to donate to take action immediately.”
