Topps Unveils its First Major League Baseball Card NFT Collection
On the heels of the success of Dapper Labs partnership with the National Basketball Association for NBA Top Shot, trading card company, Topps launched their first set of Topps Digital NFTs on the WAX blockchain. A limited number of digital wooden, bronze, silver, or gold Topps coins were claimed for free by NFT collectors with many now being found for sale on the AtomicHub Marketplace.
These promotional NFTs are a precursor to tomorrow’s launch of Official Topps MLB Baseball card packs going on sale. Packs will be purchased via credit card, but to open packs and store cards, collectors will need to create a WAX wallet.
A new feature for these sports NFTs is what they’re calling “Burn to Earn.” Each week, certain cards will be designated in the “Craft” section of the website. Owners of those cards can “burn” them and receive a 1952 throwback pack.
Topps previously partnered with WAX for the release of Garbage Pail Kids NFTs.
